Examples of how to use questions when dealing with inanimate objects

12 Step Meetings

1. Do you lie, cheat and steal?

a. Do you ever lie in a meeting? Do you ever lie about going to a meeting or lie about how much you get out of meetings? Do you ever signed the chairpersons name to your meeting sheet?

2. Are you misleading anyone?

a. Are you ever misleading at meetings? Do you ever hold back talking about problems because you want others to think you are doing better than you are? Do you ever mislead anyone about how much you are getting out of your meetings?

3. Do you say things to or about other people that hurts them?

a. Do you ever leave meetings and talk unfavorably about someone at the meeting? Do you ever complain about going to 12 step meetings?

4. Can you be trusted?

a. If you say you are going to a meeting, can you be trusted to be there? Can you be trusted around the collection basket at a meeting?

5. Do you make excuses?

a. Do you make excuses about why you can’t get to a meeting?

6. Do you fail to help others?

a. Can you be more helpful getting others to meetings but fail to do so? Can you be more helpful to newcomers about navigating the meetings but fail to do so?

7. Are you using drugs, drinking or overeating?

a. Do you go to meetings and drink too much coffee? Or eat too much birthday cake?

8. Are you prejudiced against other races or sexes?

a. If you are at a meeting, and a new person comes in that is a different race, do you think differently about them because of their race? Do you ever think differently about other sexes in meetings? (I.e. think they are there for reasons other than recovery)

9. Do you make fun of others?

a. Do you ever make fun of other people you see at meetings? Do you ever make fun of the meetings traditions?

10. Are the people allowed in your life negative influences?

a. Are there people in your life that don’t believe 12 step meetings are helpful? Are there people in your life that tell you to skip meetings?

11. Are you a fair person?

a. If you go to a meeting and no one else is there, are you going to count that as 1 of your meetings you attended? Do you go into meetings with an open mind?

12. Do you have a temper?

a. When you are at meetings, do you get easily frustrated? Do you get ill when someone is talking too long, or goes off topic?

13. Do you respect others?

a. Are you respectful of other members of 12 step community? Are you ever disrespectful to someone prior to, during or after a meeting?

14. Do you admit your mistakes?

a. Do you openly share in meetings about how you get off track in recovery or where you could have made better decisions?

15. Can you forgive others and yourself?

a. If you are in a meeting with someone who did you wrong, or you did wrong, can you forgive them? Can you forgive yourself?
